Edinburgh Comedy Preview Night
July 7 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm£10
Ben Van Der Velde and Rachel Creeger (MC Juliet Meyers) perform their shows before heading to the Edinburgh Comedy Festival.
Ben Van der Velde – Fablemaker
Jump into an improvised comedy adventure with this “master of audience interaction” (Huffington Post) as he raids the library of his fantastical imagination to create thrillers, romances, ghost stories and more original freewheeling tales that have never been told before and never will be again. Ben Van der Velde is a stand-up comedian, actor, improviser and presenter, who, over the past few years, has spread joy and nonsense to all four corners of the British Isles, as well as Greece, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Estonia, Latvia, Finland and Norway. He is a regular host and act for respected British comedy clubs such as The Comedy Store, The Stand, Komedia and Comedy Club 4 Kids, as well as hosting stages for Bestival, Festival No.6, End of the Road and Sunday Papers Live. He has also been the audience warm-up for Deal Or No Deal. On top of that, he has taken commissions to perform a voodoo re-marriage ceremony, founded the Church of the Holy Kazoo with comedy legend Mark Thomas, walked the entire London Underground network to raise money for The Refugee Council and even took part in experiments at The Royal Society that revealed him to have the most infectious laugh of any human, rat or monkey.
“Whipsharp…with an air of mischievous mayhem…his hit rate is impressive, while his in-the-moment style creates a buzz of excitement in the room…a life-giving compere.” Steve Bennett, Chortle
“Highly promising…an accomplished comic.” Time Out
“Wonderfully improvised riffs showcasing his impressive spontaneity and sharp tongue.” Edinburgh Festivals Magazine
“On flights of fancy, he pushes ideas to extremes and displays a crackling, spontaneous energy in which we’re swept up.” Fest
Rachel Creeger – Hinayni!
Is Rachel ever honestly present in the moment? It’s funny how seeing herself in someone else’s reflection sparks thoughts she only admits to herself in the middle of the night. Or on stage. Sometimes it takes a little darkness to shine a light on the truth. The only Orthodox Jewish Female Comedian currently on the UK comedy circuit returns to the Fringe with a bravely funny and captivating show.
Rachel Creeger has been running and compering comedy gigs since 2011 and is resident MC for Upstairs at the Adam & Eve. She is an award winning comedian and director, and an established writer, known for dark comedies ‘An Insomniac’s Guide To Ambulances’ and ‘Staffroom’. Rachel has been touring her 4* reviewed, sell out solo show ‘It’s No Job For A Nice Jewish Girl’, winner of the Best Comedy Award at the Greater Manchester Fringe 2017, around the UK and Israel, to full houses and great acclaim. As heard on BBC Radio London (regular guest) and BBC 3CR.

Managing to mix silliness with edginess, Juliet is much in demand both as a comedian and an MC. She has been bringing her own brand of hilarious, cerebral, observational, gag –driven, (mostly gender non-specific), comedy to the stage for 7 years. Juliet is a radio regular and currently working on various comedy radio plays.
